An Internet Explorer change that may require minor fixes to your website

If your website has Macromedia Flash, or other embedded elements, your site will require some minor fixes in the upcoming months. Users will be able to view embedded content and applications in their present form—until they update their browsers to the future version of Internet Explorer on Windows. The soonest you can expect to see the new browser is early next year. So, for a while, most users will see everything normally. When users download and install the new browser, on some sites they'll see a dialog box asking for their permission to view each piece of embedded or "active" content. To insure these updates occur with your site, contact Shannon Renckens.
What’s New with Search Engine Optimization?

A couple of years ago, the most important thing for a web site’s ranking in the search engine was the presence of some invisible words called “Metatags”. Read more about SEO today. For a while, it was how many sites were linked to your site. Currently, the most prominent feature of any site that affects rankings is the actual text in the page.

How to have your email address on your web site without inviting SPAM

Spammers use software (called ‘bots’) to search for email addresses on web sites, which is why my own address, which has been on the web since before 1997, gets about 300 pieces of SPAM every day! But these bots can’t read a Flash file. On our recent launch of AshokanArchitecture.com, we put the contact email addresses on the site in a Flash movie, so that site visitors can still make contact.

New Web Site Launches

Ashokan Architecture of Stone Ridge, NY, needed a site to highlight the wide range of their capabilities, and bring focus to their institutional work. Their rich and beautiful architecture is presented in this new website at www.ashokanarchitecture.com

Catskill Mountain Organic Coffees: One of the fringe benefits at O\W is the fact that the coffee we drink here is absolutely the best, from nearby Catskill Mountain Organic Coffees. So when their web site needed a facelift, it was a labor of love and caffeine. www.catskillmtncoffee.com

Juliet Varnedoe: Creating entire websites in Macromedia Flash is being done less and less in the business world. But where it can still be wonderfully effective is in the arts. Juliet Varnedoe’s new site designed by Susanna Ronner Graphic Design and produced at O\W highlights the beautiful work of this talented photographer at www.jvarnedoe.com.

Best-kept secrets of how O\W can help your business…

What we do here at Oxclove workshop makes for a difficult short description. Yes, we make web sites. But web sites can create value for a business in many different ways both in the marketing arena as well as in business operations, requiring a wide range of knowledge and skills, from business analysis, marketing, branding, and more, not to mention the very skills required for actually putting it all together. Our consulting services include supply chain management, knowledge management, marketing, and more. Contact us today to see how we can bring value to your business.

Custom Application Development

Custom Application Development isn’t what it used to be. In fact, we have been living through a major revolution, where it simply is no longer about the decision to buy a commercial off-the-shelf software (COTS) or totally custom. Microsoft’s .NET allows developers to create applications using a modular approach, while allowing for the integration of the full suite of Microsoft’s business applications.

Also, with the use of modeling and documentation, you can be sure of obtaining a solution that can grow gracefully with your business. If you find that your business is having to bend to the solution, as opposed to the solution bending to your business, contact us to see if a custom application might be right for you.
